Oto-Wa Taiko

Japanese Drumming Group

Workshops

Would you like to learn more about the art of taiko performance?

Oto-Wa Taiko conducts general interest taiko workshops to give you a chance to experience first-hand the power of Japanese drumming. During the 3-hour workshop, you will learn basic taiko playing techniques and practice simple rhythms, see a short taiko demonstration by the instructors, and even have a chance to cooperate in small groups to compose and perform a simple piece. Most of all people have a lot of fun.

Here are some testimonials from participants:

"Thank you for the wonderful workshop last weekend. I really enjoyed it! I think you and your group have done a wonderful job in making the workshop accessible to everyone, and in structuring it so that there is a nice, easy progression from the very basics of holding the sticks to actually composing a piece."

"I opted to show up at last weekend's open workshop at the Tom Brown arena as it would be a terrific opportunity to have a first-hand look into the background world of that energetic, traditional Japanese art form. I had fun, and had been given a glimpse into yet another recess of Japanese culture. Not to mention, I had an even greater respect for members of the Oto-Wa troupe than I'd had going in. The best money I've ever spent."
